Preppin' Up for a Change

Updated: Jan 13, 2018

When it comes to my own personal style, I prefer going back to the basic colors and pieces that I can wear to a meeting with clients to partying with my friends later that night. So it takes a well-trained eye and taste to be able to pick out clothes that can go well with both functions.

So my typical go-to pieces would be pencil skirts, flats or platform heels, well-fitted blouses I tailored to hug my body perfectly, and to finish off the outfit would be a statement necklace and an eye-catching pair of earrings.

That is why when I suddenly showed up one night for a coffee date with my friends, they were shocked to see me in pastel and preppy clothes. Dressed in a blush-colored blouse with pleats and hand-sewn embellishments of rhinestones and sequins on the collar, I paired it off with a high-waisted skort to cheat because why not? Of course, I would never get out of the house without being ready so I made sure to bring around my trusty gray knit cardigan to keep me warm during the night as I was sure we were going to pull an all-nighter.

Needless to say, after I posted this #OOTD on my Instagram feed, I began to receive mixed reactions from friends. Most were in shock as they knew of me to sport outfits in bold colors such as black, navy blue, red, white, and gold but never of pastel colors. Thankfully, it was a good kind of surprise, much like a breath of fresh air for them and I believe it is always good to step out of one's comfort zone from time to time to challenge one's own norm.

Life is too short to stick to just one style so surprise yourself too!
